Age Divisions explained

RSC adheres to the AYSO guidelines for assigning players to divisions. Ours is a fully insured club and it’s important we continue to do this for everyone to be protected.

These guidelines changed in 2018 when AYSO adopted the international standards called “birth year registration.” For the Fall season, what AYSO considers the start of its Membership Year, the determining question is, How old will my child be on December 31st of the current year?

Keep in mind, if your child was born between Sept - Dec 31st, they are likely to be the youngest in their division this season. If they were born in the first few months of the previous year, they will be the oldest.

What does this really look like?

It depends on the season, and that's where it gets really confusing.

Our club offers five age divisions: 4U, 6U, 8U, 11U and 14U, read as “4 and Under, 6 and Under, 8 and Under, etc.”

In the Fall season the oldest child in 6U will be five years old. Any child six years old or turning 6 between Sept and Dec 31st of that year would be playing in the next higher age-division, 8U.
In the Spring season it's different when, for example, a younger six year-old can play in 6U, etc.

One exception. AYSO allows players to move up in division, but never down. This means if your child was assigned to 6U they can play in 8U or even 11U, but no player assigned to 8U can play in 6U, no player assigned to 11U can play in 8U, and so on.

*During the registration process, you will see only the division based on the participant’s date of birth. To request to be moved up, please contact us.
